The immediate catalyst was the shooting of 26-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine, on Monday morning. That death came less than a week after an ICE agent shot and killed 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during a traffic stop in Houston.

Why This Pause Matters
